Nash and Arctic Fox
A nuthatch stopped at the feeder during the third week and I noticed some old elk droppings. Have not seen any elk around the property.
Back in 2013, it was time to purchase my fourth RV. I still wanted to stay with the off-grid hardwall camping lifestyle. It was fabulous. After quite a bit of research, I decided on a Northwood Nash 17K, a 22’ trailer. After all this time, it has held up well and I sure put it to the test numerous times over the years. Even now, if I was going to go back to that lifestyle, I would purchase another Nash 17K. But at this stage of my life, it would be too difficult for me. Here on my acre in Timberon, not being hooked up to a power line, nor the water system and no cell phone or internet access is as close as I can get to it. And as I’ve said, I still want to continue with this pseudo off-grid lifestyle, just not here.
Back in 2013, after I decided on the Nash, I called the RV dealership in La Grande, OR, the city where the Northwood mfg. factory was located, and placed my order.
I wrote about the whole scenario on the May 2013—one trailer, two trailers, one trailer blog page. Selling the Casita on the drive north, setting up in a national forest, bringing the Nash to the same spot, Meadow disappearing, not having phone access to the buyer and whatnot.
While outside of La Grande, I took the tour of the factory. Saw how the Nash line was contructed, heavy duty, cambered off-road chasis (awesome), wood framing and matt insulation (not my preference) and all the rest. But the Nash is an entry level RV so one can’t expect too much.
The Arctic Fox line was built in the same buiding and since all the others on the tour were interested in the Arctic Fox, that is where we spent most of the time. Stellar, and also with a heavy duty off-road chassis but with an aluminum framing and solid foam insulation (my preference). But the shortest Fox was too long. It would have restricted where I could get to.
For my fifth RV however, I am going with an Arctic Fox. Not perfect, but it will provide the floorspace for the type of exercise and movements I want to do. It will have a slldeout with the settee and the trailer will be five feet longer @27’ and a half foot wider. Don’t want nor need anything longer nor a second slide.
It looks as if the Fox will force me to cut down further on my possessions. The longer Arctic Fox might have less storage than the Nash 17K @22’. There are also quite a few features of the Nash that I prefer over the Fox which I will write about in a couple months. The Nash 17K has worked quite well for us but now it is time for a change. I hope, ‘change is good’ will apply here.
Northwood recently started their next run of Artic Fox trailers, running until they fill all their orders from around the country. Mine got on the list in April.
When it comes in, I’ll pack the pickup with as much as will fit and have M&M in their cages in the cab. Since they can not enjoy anything less, I will look into what can be used as cat sedatives for car trips. It is a 4 ½ hour drive north to Lowry’s RV in Silver City.
Then I hope to get a site for a month at Ridge Park RV park in Silver City. This will give me time to check out all the systems, roof and whatnot while near the dealership.
The ball is in your court. Pick it up and move with it.
Reset, restart, refocus as many times as you wantor need to.
